CERTH

centre of research and technology hellas

Greece

Brief Description:

The Centre for Research and Technology-Hellas (CERTH) is the only research centre in Northern Greece and one of the largest in the country being founded in 2000. It is a legal entity governed by private law with nonprofit status, supervised by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) of the Greek Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. CERTH has important scientific and technological achievements in many areas including: Energy, Environment, Industry, Mechatronics, Information & Communication, Transportation

& Sustainable Mobility, Health, Agro-biotechnology, Smart farming, Safety & Security, as well as several cross-disciplinary scientific areas. From CERTH, Information Technologies Institute (ITI) and Chemical Process and Energy Resources Institute (CPERI) will participate in order to fulfil the objectives of INSULAE. These are outlined in details in the next paragraphs.

Main task and responsibilities:

  • WP3:

Perform the energy system modelling in steady (T3.2) and dynamic mode (T3.3) of Madeira island. Through the participation in similar projected related to smart Grids development, CERTH has gained an expertise on energy systems simulations using the commercial tool APROS.

  • WP4:

Support of data aggregation and analytics activities (T4.1), Smart controllers and algorithms for DESS operation and optimization (ST 4.4.2). CERTH has a vast experience on this field thanks to the participation in several related Horizon projects, indicatively: VIS-SENSE, ADAPT4EE, NEMESYS, INERTIA, INTEGRIDY, eDREAM, SATISFACTORY, MONSOON, BOOST 4.0, COMPOSITION, Z-FACTOR. During its participation in these projects, CERTH developed and implemented techniques such as data analytics, deep learning, multi-factor trend analysis for visualization, optimization and decision making purposes.

  • WP8 (Leader):

Monitor, coordinates the use case replication actions in the Reference Islands (T8.1) and the action plans for the Following Islands concerning the implementation of IPT tool on them (T8.2). Also, CERTH will undertake the training of relevant stakeholders for using INSULAE IPT. The suitability of CERTH for leading this WP is justified by the wide experience in previous projects addressing EU islands.
