Brief Description:

Steinbeis-Europa-Zentrum (SEZ) in the Steinbeis Innovation gGmbh (SIG) was founded in March 1990 as the operational unit of the Commissioner for Europe of Baden-Württemberg’s former Minister of Economic Affairs. SEZ’s core business activity, with over 25 years’ experience, is facilitating the path to European research funding for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), research organisations and universities.

In 2016, Steinbeis 2i GmbH (S2i) was founded as a 100% daughter of SEZ to complement this mission. As a member of the Enterprise Europe Network, S2i, initiates and supports by transnational technology transfer.

Hence, both these Steinbeis Transfer Centres build a bridge to Europe for enterprises, industries, research organisations, universities, public administrations and policy makers. Its focus is offering advice and support in participating in European research and technology transfer programmes with the aim of promoting and developing the innovation capacity of local regions and enterprises. Whilst supporting the full spectrum of technological sectors S2i has particular expertise in dealing with EUenergy and smart cities projects, including cross-cutting projects evaluating these.

Main task and responsibilities:

SIG will support and complement the activities and contributions of the German island of Norderney in its follower role. SIG experience in technology transfer and exploitation of project results will ensure that Norderney will gain the greatest possible benefit from participation as a follower.

In turn, the collaboration of both partners will ensure that results, gained knowledge and lessons learned from the project related activities on Norderney will also be beneficial to reach the overall project objectives and to magnify deployment and replication on an EU-level. SIG will have an important role in WP8 INSULAE use cases and solutions replication.
