Brief Description:

Psara together with the small island of Antipsara forms the municipality of Psara. It belongs to the Regional Unit of Chios. It is located to the North Aegean and lies 44 nautical miles (81 km) northwest of Chios, 22 km (14 miles) from the northwestern point of the island of Chios and 150 km (93 mi) eastnortheast of Athens.

The length and width are about 7 by 8 km (4 by 5 mi) and the area of the island is 43 km2. The municipality has an area of 44.511. The permanent residents are 458 according to census in 2011 of whom 49.7% are men and 50.3% women.

Main task and responsibilities:

The Municipality of Psara will mainly involve in the replication activities of the proposed solutions in Psara (Greek Follower island) in WP8, through the application of the IPT (Task 8.2). Acting as the local authority, the Municipality of Psara will have the most crucial role, not only for the successful implementation of the foreseen actions in the Greek Follower island, but also for the citizens’ engagement and the decision making processes that concern the island of Psara.
